Synopsis
Using existing period songs this new book musical is based on the story of Judy Garland, from her days in the mid-20s as a child vaudeville performer (as Frances “Baby” Gumm) up through her iconic role as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz. This is a story of a prodigious talent growing up in a problematic family—a mother desperate for success, a sexually and emotionally confused father, two moderately talented older sisters—living on the fringes of Hollywood. After many auditions she lands a contract with MGM, but then must struggle to break out of the pack of talented juveniles. True international stardom arrives with The Wizard of Oz.
